A problem often picked up amongst senior citizens has to do with housing. Many people have received government-subsidized housing. Often, their relatives force the elderly person to transfer their house to them in order to avoid lengthy complications when they die. However, the house is then used as a collateral when these relatives incur debt. The profit of the sale of the house if also often used to finance a drug or alcohol habit. These elderly people then end up on the streets, with nothing in their name.
Therefore, we are embarking on an awareness raising campaign where we inform people how to draw up wills and what the consequences are. In that way, they can remain in their house until they day and have control over what happens to their house in the future. |
